FAREWELL PRESENTATION TO MR. A. J. WOODS.

On Friday evening last members of the Home and School Association, School Committee, parents and scholars met to farewell Mr. Woods, and to present him with a small token of appreciation of his services for the past three years. Mr. Wale, chairman of the School Committee, in presenting Mr. Woods with a case of pipes, wished him on behalf of the people present the best of luck in his new sphere. Mr. A. E. Robinson, H. and S.A., also congratulated Mr. on his promotion, but expressed regret that it meant they were to lose him. Mr. Woods, in replying, remarked that although he -was going away from the district he would always remember it, as since coming from Dunedin he had found that other people besides Scotsmen were vei-y generous. (Laughter.) "Since Mrs. Woods and myself have been in Upper Hutt," continued Mr. Woods, "we have found some very fine friends, and it is with no little concern that we are about to part from them. There is one thing I wish to tell

you people, and that is you do not appreciate your own district enough, To my mind it is one of the prettiest spots one could -wish to live in; you have natural bush all round you, and yet it is within an hour's ride from the main city of the country." He also referred to the ideal park the district possessed for children to play in. In conclusion Mr. "Woods congratulated the School Committee and the Home and School Association on their wonderful work for the school, stating that whenever he had wanted anything in the way of books, etc., for the school the committees had soon got them for him. He would like to tell the parents that the children on the whole -were very well behaved, and this had been a great help to him and his staff. Mr. Woods thanked his staff -of teachers for their loyal co-operation, and hoped that they would do their utmost for the new hsadmaster when he arrived. Mr. Hai-ris called for three cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Woods and family, which were heartily given. Aftex- supper there were dances and games.
