"Call of the Wild." Discovery of gold in the Yukon has precipitated a wild era of violence, tumult and heroics in Alaska. Jack Thornton returns to Skagway and, before he can return to the States, drops most of his gold at the gambling tables. When Shorty Hoolihan, exjockey, discloses what he knows of the location of a rich "lost claim" discovered by a prospector now ', dead, they decide to search for it to- ; gether. ' Thornton saves Buck, an appar- '. ently unmanageable sled dog, from ; being killed by a villainous prosr pector named Smith. By buying I Buck, Thornton wins the dog's de- [ votion and Smith's enmity. r On the trail Thornton and Shorty ? rescue beautiful Claire Blake from f wolves. Her husband has been lost \ in the Arctic wastelands. The [ Blakes hold the key to the location \ of the "lost claim," discovered by | Blake's father. | Thornton and Shorty take Claire | with them to Dawson City. She | hates Thornton, condemning him 4 because he had refused to under- | take the useless and dangerous | search for her husband. I Thornton and Shorty disclose to I her their knowledge of the "lost | claim." Realising she is helpless | "without them, she agrees to supply I the missing details. | Claire insists upon accompanying 1 the men on the expedition. After f a perilous journey the trio locate f the strike, finding it unbelievably * rich. Shorty is dispatched for DawIson to file claim on the property. Claire's hate turns to love and she and Thornton grow increasingly infatuated -with each other. Smith and his aids surprise Thornton and Claire, strip them of weapons and gold and set off for 4 Dawson to file claim. Their canoe 4 capsizes, however, and they go ! down with their ill-gotten gold. | Buck, returning from an amour I with a she-wolk, finds Blake, -whom * Smith had forced to lead him to I the site of the strike and then left I for dead. The animal leads Thorn--1 ton to Blake. Although he loves | Claire and is certain she loves him, I Thornton is big enough to send the 1 re-united couple off to Dawson to | file on the claim. ? As Thornton resigns himself to | settling down to the eight long I months of winter, alone with Buck, | Shorty suddenly turns up and sup- ? plies a surprise comedy fadeout.
