ROXBURGH.
{From our own Correspondent.) February 23rd, 1875. Things here are again assuming their usual appearance, all the claims being in full working order, with the exception of Woodhouse and (Vs., alongside of the punt. This Company require the river to be at a lower level than it is at present to enable them to make a start. M'Donald and Co., the contractors for the Bridge, are again at work building up the piers, ,a supply of fresh cement having come to hand. It is to be hoped that no further stoppage will occnr during its con- j struction, but that everything will ge on smoothly, otherwise, we cannot expect to have the bridge built in anything like the contract 1 time. . . - I am given to understand that an edict has gone forth from the altar of the Roman Catholic Church here to the effect that all connected with the Church must stand aloof from the Order of Good Templars, under threat of expulsion from the Church. A better site could not be found for such a purpose in the whole of Otago than the one proposed, as by the construction of a short and inexpensive dam bank, a sheet of water could be secured, covering some hundreds of acres in extent, and by putting in a proper flushet the races could be supplied with full water all the year round. The Government would in the course of time be fully recouped for the outlay by the revenue on the extra gold that would be got by the miners,
