Eather Coleman brings an action against the "Times" for correspondence re collections at St Joseph's. At the Heads: City of Dunedin, from London. An attempt to launch the Emulus at Oamaru was again unsuccessful. The entries for the Oamaru Races are :—: — Hurdle Race : Banjo, Medora, Maid of the Mill, Unknown, Mistletoe, Theodore. For the Handicap ; Medora, Ringleader, Maid of the Mill, Blackbird, Ada Colt, Unknown, Selection, Koro, Merriman, and Exile. The statements made by the "Bruce Herald," that the Clutha railway bridges on inspection proved rotten, are officially denied. The Arrow United Company have struck a heavy body of payable river wash- dirt, but cannot continue sinking until a new turbine ia erected. Ohtnemttbi, February 19. The talk was concluded yesterday, when a number of the principal chiefs came forward and signed an agreement to cede the lands. The opening takes place early next week. The Ministers have left for Auckland to attend Mr. Williamson's funeral. Auckland, February 19. The scarcity of labor is much complained of. The immigrants to arrive by the next ship are all engaged beforehand. The railway works are delayed for want of labor.

Newton, the Maori, was executed to-day. An improved form ot gallows was used, which prevented any hitch. He died without a struggle, protesting his innocence to the last.
