{From our own Correspondent.) Dunedin, Feb. 5. The San Francisco mail was delivered to-day. George Case and wife are passengers by the Albion. Captain Knight, of the ship Bebingfcon, died of heart disease on his way home on the Tararua's trip across. The prize firing is practically over. The distribution of prize money was as follows :—: — Auckland and the Thames, £265 ; Constabulary, £142 ; Nelson, £11 ; Wellington, £14 ; Napier, £3 ; Taranaki, £1 ; Westland, £4 ; Canterbury, £8 ; Otago, £148. The evidence at the enquiry re protest against Skinner showed his sights were filed, but there was no evidence to connect the champion with the act, as the rifle had changed hands half-a-dozen times since issued to him. Mr. Teschmaker has resigned his seat for Oamaru Country. Mr. Wentworth has donated £100 to fche Invercargill hospital. Captain Eckhoff has been appointed master of the Dunedin Sailors' Home. The Christchurcn cabmen offer to submit their dispute with the Corporation to arbi" tration. Mr. M'lntosli, manager of Fisher's station Mackenzie country, tried yesterday to ceross s the Rangitata with his wife and daughter in a hooded buggy. The fordman was absent, Mr. Wragge, M'lntosh's brother-in-law, knowing the ford well, acted a 9 pilot. The ladies becoming frightened on reaching the deepest part of the ford stood up, causing the buggy to tilt over. Wragge caught Miss M'lntosh as she floated by, but the force of the current dragged her away. Her body has been recovered, but not the others. The ford was quite low, and if the ladies had not lost nerve there would have been no danger.
The increase in the imports of the Colony for the year 1874, over the [year 1873, is nearly 15 per cent. The decrease in the exports amounts to £359,102.
The Wellington City Council is in a very unpleasant financial position. Its water work's loan of £25,000 has been called in. The Bank account is overdrawn to the amount of £15,000, and the Bank is unable to sell its debentures. EoxßimaH, Feb. 5. An inquest was held to-day at Moa Flat, before J Beighton, Esq., on the body of Jose de Silva, of Crookston Block, who was found dead in his bed on Thursday morning at Mr. Waugh's farm, where he had been harvesting. Doctor Leahy made a post mortem examination. A verdict of died from disease of the heart was returned.
