Me. Henbt Deiveb (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.) reports, as follows for the week ending 3rd February : — Fat Cattle.— A fair supply, consisting of 120 head, mostly of good quality, were yarded at the Kaikorai to-day, and taking into consideration that we are now iv the middle o£ summer, all the pens were taken by the trade at what may be considered very satisfactory prices. Best bullocks realised from £9 to £11 7s 6d ; do cows, from £7 to £8 5s each, or equal to 27s 6d per lOOlbs for prime quality pens, and from 253 to 26s for average. I sold at the yards, on account of Messrs. M'Laren and Co., 51 head, at top prices, and have sold for forward delivery during the week 40 head. Fat Calves. — A few good quality calves were penned to-day, which I sold at extreme rates, say, up to £2 13s for best quality. Sheep. — A large supply of about 1300 were penned, of which only about 900 were taken by the trade, the balance being turned out. Best cross-breds brought from 14s 6cl to 17s each do. merinoes, from 8s to 10s each, or ebual to 2£d to 3d per lb. for crossbreds, and 2£d for merinoes. I sold at the "yards, on account of Messrs. Orbell, Shaud, and Todd, 400 at above rates, and have sold 500 for forward delivery. Fat Lambs. — Again there was a large supI ply penned — about 250 iv all — whiuh were sold at 7s 9d to 10s 6d. I sold, on account of Messrs. Shaud, Todd, and others, 150 at above prices. Store Cattle. — Bullocks or cows in good condition, lit for grazing, are getting extremely scarce, and are very saleable, at from £5 to £6 for the former, and £4 to £5 for the latter. I sold, at Mosgiel, during the week, a very superior lot, at full quotations. Store Sheep. — There is almost an unlimited demand for young merino Bheep and crossbreds, 4-tooth and upwards, with but very few of either description offering. I have sold aboub 3000 aged merino ewes aud wethers, and have several transactions pending. I quote merino ewes, 2-tooth and upwards, at from 7s to 9s ; full-mouthed, 3s 6d to ss, according to quality ; merino wethers, 4- to 6-tooth, Gs Gd to 8s 5 do, full-mouthed, 5s to 6s ; cross-breds, 4-tooth and upwards, from 9s to 12s Gd ; 2-tooth, 9s 6d to 10s 6d.
Wool. — I catalogued 850 bales at my sale to-day. Prices ranged at from 10£ dto 15id for greasy half-bred, and from lOd to 15f d for merino do. The competition for medium washed and heavy-conditioned or faulty descriptions of greasy wool, was barely as good as at foimer sales, which is, no doubt, attributable to the late advices received from Home, which are not of a very assuring nature.
Grain.— Wheat continues in fair demand, with rerj little offering. I quote good samples at 5s 4d to 5s 6d. Outs are difficult to quit. I quote feed at 4s 2d to 43 4d. Barley (milting), 5s 3J to 5s 6d.
