Mbssbs Weight, Stevenson and Co., re- ( port as follows for the week ending 23rd January : —
Fat Cattle. — 114 head were yarded, of which the greater part was only middling quality. We sold, on account of Messrs W. Soutor and R. Elliot, 44 head. Bullocks brought from £6 17s 6d to £11 ; cows from £6 to £10 12s 6d, equal to 25s per 1001 b for good quality, and 22s for medium ditto. Pat Calves. — The demand is good. Only a few were yarded, which sold at from 30s to 45s each. Fat Sheep. — 1,300 were penned. We sold 300 " cross-bred at from 12s 9d to 16s each ; and privately, 1,400 merinoes and cross-breds at quotations. We quote prime quality crossbreds at 2f lb per lb ; ditto merinoes, 2i Fat Lambs. — 400 were penned, but only a part were sold to the trade, the remainder going to graziers. We sold 86 at from 5b to 10s each. Stobe Cattle. — There is still a good demand for grown cattle, but few are offering. We quote bullocks, 3 to 5-year-old, £5 to £6; spayed cows, £3 10s to £4 10s ; mixed lots, £2 15s to £3. Stoee Sheep. — We have buyers for. young merino ewes and wethers, and for half-breJs. We sold 2000 full-mouthed merino wethers at ss. 6d. We also sold some imported stud Lincoln' rams and ewes ; 15 rams brought from £50 to £60 each ; and 19 ewes, 45 guineas each, the chief purchasers being Mr. J. M. Larnach and Mr. E> Menlove. We quote merino wethers, four and six-tooth. 6s 6d to 7s ; fulUmouthed. 5s 6d to 6s ; merino ewes, two and four tooth, 8s to 9s ; fullmouthed, 4s to 5s j two and four-tooth, 10s. Houses. — The demand ie active for heavy draught stock, especially mares, and for strong coach horses. Wife 1 sold, on account of Mr. .H. B.
