Rifleman is a dark chesnut horse, 16 hands high, of great substance and power, bred by Mr. G. Duppa, of Nelson ; he is by Sir Hercules, out of Nora Creina, by Plenipotentiary. Sir Hercules by Cap-a-pie, out of Paraguay ; his dam, Nora Crema, chestnut mare, imported from Ireland to Canterbury by Mr. Godfrey ; Sir Hercules, bred by Mr. Smith, New South Wales, purchased by Mr. Redwood, and brought to Nelson, together with his daughters Flora and .Zoe. The Stock of Sir Hercules have been the most successful on the turf in New Zealand as ■well as in Australia, viz. — Barbelle, Potentate, Phoebe, Wetsail, and Miss Rowe; also the present celebrated sires The Barb, Taragon, and Yattendon, which, as race horses and sires, have proved themselves the best in New South Wales. Rifleman has proved a sure foal-getter, Mid as a sire of weight-carrying hacks and carriage horses, which for durability and style stand unrivalled, and his stock have commanded the highest price hi Canterbury. Chorister is a beautiful dark bay ; stands fully 15 hands 3 inches high, with immense bone and substance, showing more power than any thoroughbred in the country. He is also perfectly quiet, and a sure foal-getter. A good paddock provided for mares from a distance. Chorister is celebrated for getting firstclass weight-carrying hacks, second to none in Otago, and several of his progeny have distinguished themselves on the turf. Terms, £3 3s. ; Groomage, ss.
