(From the Dunedin Dailies. ) Wbxlingtoit, Dec. 15th. Out of 10 town volunteers who qualified as Company Representatives, only Rountree, who made 84, qualified as a District Representative. The Rosario has arrived from Sydney, and will proceed from here to Adelaide, where she will be left as a training ship. The officers will go to England by the mail steamer. Before the Cyphrenes left San Francisco a meeting of the PaciGc Mail Company considered the proposal to place two steamers — the Vasce de Gama and Vancouver— on the trade from San Francisco to Honolulu, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide ; returning via Port Chalmers, along the New Zealand coast, the steamers to fill up, when other cargo was not procurable, with coal. The proposal will be further considered after the arrival at San Francisco of the two steamers for the Company, expected from New York. December 16 th. Miss May Howard obtained intelligence that £2000 worth of jewellery, &h first supposed to have been stolen aboard the Hero was left in a bedroom in a hotel at Sydney, during the hurry of packing,' and was not discovered till after the steamer left. Mr Prince was elected Mayor without opposition. Thompson, Mr. Quick's manager, who was captured while levanting, was charged to-day with embezzling various sums, amounting to £80. The National Bank advertises in the papers that it will allow three per cent, on the daily balance of current accounts. On deposits for 30 days, four per cent. ; three months five percent. The Bank of New Zealand advertises the highest rates of interest. Christchukoh, Dec. 15th. The Mayor of Christchurch offers £50, first prize, and £10, second prize, for essays on the best method of improving the sanitary condition of the city. Lytteltox, December 17th. The Pleaides immigrants landed this afternoon. 318 souls embarked, but 10 deaths occurred during the voyage— four adults and six infants. Greymouth, Dec. 16th. Mr. G. W. Moss was unanimously elected Mayor of Greymouth this evening for the ensuing twelve months. Napiek, Dec. 16th. Jn the Supreme Court, Judge Johnston congratulated the Grand Jury on the lightness of the calendar. William Blackman pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a mare the property of Alexander Benir, of Poverty Bay, He was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. William Little, charged with forgery, and uttering a cheque for £20, purporting to be drawn by Neal and Close on the Bank of New Zealand, was convicted and sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. William Morton alias Leonard, charged Wittt~forglng~and Uttering a okequo -for £14 10s 6d purporting to be drawn by J. Lee Coanter and B. Greenwood on the Uuion Bank, was found guilty of uttering, and sentenced too three years. December 17th. In the Supreme Conrt the only case of public interest was Lydia Phillips against Captain Knight and Dr. Dale, of the ship Bebington. The case was settled out of Court by the payment by the Captain (who is too ill to appear) of £30.
