THE TOWN HALL.

LTo the Editor.) | Sin, — I was recently looking ovor the Tow n Hall, and being at a loss to account for tb e existence of a large aperture in the floor of the Hall, naturally inquired of the con' tractors, who informed me it was for stairs. Now I do not wish to insinuate that the Architect is to blame for tbe disfigurement of otherwise a really fine Hall, as he might have been impelled to the course for economy's sake, but I am told that when he paid a visit here recently, he pointed out how this disfigurement might be avoided by taking the stairs up in another manner and at a very trifling cost, but I am also informed that some of oar Councillors are taken with a sudden fit of economy, and depricate any. change. Now, as tbe ratepayers have to pay for this building, I think they should take the matter up, and, as the Council are responsible tern them, see that they do their duty by not dis- J figuring the building in auy way ; and seeing that one of themfhas not many architectural ideas beyond tbe building of a pig-stye, and that obtained by the contemplation of one in close proximity to hB owh-*dwelling, I trust that those of them who are unfavorable at present to the change will take advice from those better qualified to judge. — I am, &c., w Obsebteb.
