Telegraphic Despatches.

{From our own Correspondent.) Dunbdin, Dec. 4. A deputation from the Harbor Board to-day waited on the Superintendent to urge upon him to transfer to the Board without delay the powers conferred on him as Superintendent. His Honor entered into a long explanation, giving his reasons why the transfer had not been effected, and said that a proclamation had been sent North to the General Government Gazette for publication, which was necessary before the powers vested in him could be transfered, and promised to immediately communicate with the General, Government, expressing his willingness to meet the views of the Board. A Cromwell telegram states that the Cromwell Co. banked another cake of gold weighing 1409 ounces. December sth, 10.18 a.m. Mr. Conyers-has resigned his position as general manager of the Otago railways. Mr. CaTruthers, Engiueer-in-Chief, is now on a visit of inspection of the South Island railways. He was at Oamaru on Thursday, 3rd instant.

Gazettes extraordinary were published at Wellington yesterday. The first announced that the Marquis of Normanby had assumed the administration of the Government, and the second contains tho prorogation of the Assembly till Ist March next.

The second days racing at Wellington yesterday was postponed in consequence of the weather. Only three stewards out of 19 took part in the postponement, and an intense feeling was exhibited on the ground by the people ; the Stewards being hooted and pelted off the course.

At Chriatchurch yesterday, Mr. Bowen sat on the bench for the last time as Resident Magistrate. The President of the Canterbury Law Society tendered an expression of regret at his departure, and expressed confidence in his giving the utmost satisfaction in his new position as Minister of Justice.
