THE APPROACHES TO THE BEAUMONT BRIDGE.
{To the Editor.) Now that the Beaumont Bridge is so near completed, I should like to ask through your columns why the Government have not prepared the road to it on both sides. I noticed lately that a party of men have been employed building up the approciches close to the bridge, but nothing has been done to makfe the road passable for traffic on ( the east bank of the river from the bridge to ■fche existing road, and a large swamp intervenes, which will give teamsters all their work to cross. It is certainly an injustice to the proprietor of the bridge not to complete the approaches by the time the bridge is ready for use, as the loss of a month's traffic in the wool season would be a considerable item. Very little has yet been done to the iip-country roads this season, and it is anything but creditable to the Government to totally neglect keeping the goldfields roads in at least a passable state in ths summer months. A little supervision of the men they have already employed would be a great benefit, as in places, though tools are to be seen lying by the roadside, the men are conspicuous by their absence. — I am, &c, Teamsteb.
