(From tJie Dunedin Dailies. ) Wellington, nov. 13th. The Directors of the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company have determined to send orders Home immediately for a new steamer for the coastal trade. She will be 350 tons register, with compound engines. Another similar vessel will probably soon be ordered. A proclamation has been issued fordidding the importation of grape vines. The Governor leaves Wellington finally in his yacht at 5 p. m. on Monday, when he will proeeecL to Auckland and. await -the an-i-va.l of Lord Normanby there. Fourteen thousand acres of pastoral and twelve thousand acres of rural land were sold by the Provincial Government between the first and eleventh instant, and £12,737 in cash received in the office during the same time. The land is chiefly situate at Rangitikei, Wanganui, and Wairarapa. Mr O'Shea reports flour £13 to £13 10s ; oatmeal £26 ; bran, Is 6d to Is 7b ; potatoes, £8 to £9 ; barley 5s to 6s ; milling wheat, none ; chick, 3s to 4s 4d ; oats, 6s to 6s 6d ; hams, scarce, 9£d ; bacon, Bcarce, Is; cheese 94d. The Times, in commenting upon the proposed departure 'of the Superintendent of Auckland to England, says : — "Dr Featherston proceeded to Europe while retaining his place as Superintendent of Wellington, but he did it by virtue of an. express legislative enactment. Mr Williamson proceeds to Europe self-nominated, in violation of the implied condition of residence within Province during his term of office as Superintendent, and without the sanction of Government, '.indeed we should say against their strong remonstrance. Mr. 'Walter Johnston, M.H.R., and a number of influential settlers, waited on the Ministers to-day and presented a petition addressed to his Excellency the Governor, signed by upwards of 600 people, praying for the release of Alexander M'Donald. A similar petition from a large number of Maoris was also presented. The Ministers stated that a council would be held iv the afternoon, prior to his Excellency's departure, when the petitions would be considered. The result is not known. His Excellency, who was seen off by a number of gentlemen, went on board his yacht about five p.m. Auckland, Nov. 13th. Mr G. W. Binney reports the grain market firm ; flour, £13 10s to £34 ; wheat, 6s 3d ; oats, 6s to 6s 6d ; maize, 6s 6d ; bran, £7 10s ; barley 4s 6d ; pollard £8 ; hams and bacon, lOd to Is ; butter, Is ; cheese, lOd ; timber, much firmer. Mr Buckland reports : Fat sheep, moderate supply and demand at last week's value. Store cattle, a short supply and in demand. Fat cattle, average numbers. Throughout greater part of the sales last week's rates ruled, with improvement towards close. November 14th. The abandonment of the Superintendent's trip to England has been positively announced. Gbahamstown, November 13th. The briganline Endeavour arrived to-day, with targets, stores, tents, and other appurtenances for the Colonial Prize Firing. The Star's Ohinemuri correspondent states that Mackay's present work is easy unless thwarted by the ill-timed inteference and malice of disappointed land speculators. About Wednesday or Thursday will be the decisive time of settlement. Napier, November 13th. At a meeting of the creditors of Messrs. Stuart and Co., merchants, whose liabilities are £40,000, and assets £42,000 a proposal was made by Messrs. A. P. Stuart and Stevenson and D. T. Stuart (of Wellington), that on consideration of the creditors handing over the entire assetß of the estate, they would offer a composition of 15s in the £ — one fourth cash, the balance at three, six, and nine months, with interest at six per cent. Before accepting the offer, the creditors desired to have the accounts and papers of the firm gone through, to see if the full amount would not be realised. There was a strong feeling expressed that the estate would pay 20s in the pound A public meeting is convened for the 20th to take into consideration the present position of the Jockey Club in this Province with a view to making the annual races more satisfactory to the owners of horses and the public than they have been lately. November 16th. This afternoon, the adjourned meeting of Stuart and Co.'s creditors was held, and a proposition was made by the creditors to accept 178 6d in the pound, in bills at three, six, nine, and twelve months, with interest at six per cent. The meeting adjourned until to-morrow, pending the receipt of telegrams from firms in Wellington. The Rosalia sailed this morning for Dunedin in charge of Captain Veal. Captain Crabbe also proceeds in her. Several of the crew were taken out of gaol and put on board in irons. The cook and steward have taken a discharge and forfeit £50 wages rather than go in tho vessel. Christchurch, November 13th. Nearly £600 was taken in shillings at the -gatosLof iheJLgricultural show yesterday. Quotations (tro.-v. *fc Xyttelton) : -wheat, 5s 3d to 5s 6d ; oats, 6s f "flour, 1512 10 to £13 10s ; bran, £6 10s 5 pollard, £Q 5s ; sharps, £7 ; potatoes, £0 to £10 ; Millers, stocks are low, and a rise in flour is expected. November 14th. At the sale of racing stock yesterday, Ngaro was sold to Mr. R. Farmer, of Hawke's Bay, for 500 guineas, and Titoko, to the same purchaser, for 100 guineas; but Farmer afterwards sold it privately to Mr. H. Prince, bookmaker, for 150 guineas. Tadmor was sold for 250 guineas to Mr. Cotton, of Dunedin. A 300 guinea Wd for Wainui was refused. 100 guineas was refused for Bangi. Pokoa was sold to Mr. M'Glashan for 13 guineas. The annual auction sale of pure-bred sheep and cattle yesterday waß very successful. Messrs. Miller and Heslop, of Hawke's Bay, purchased several sheep at high prices. The stakes paid over by the Jockey Club, yesterday were as follows : — Mr. O'Brien, £577 10s ; Mr. Delamain, £399 ; Mr. P. Campbell, £281 j Mr. Redwood. £150 15s ; Mr. Hodge, £95 j Mr. Barker, £U ; Mr. W. Walters, £70; Mr. M'Kinnon, £4/7; Mr. j Lunn, £20. Wanganui, November 14th. Forty tins of kerosene, twenty tins of lollies, a part of a boat, tackle, &c, have been found on the beach between Manawatu and Scott's Ferry. The kerosene boxes are marked G, H.
