SABBATH DESECRATION. {To the Editor.) Sir.— Having had occasion to be in Waipori one Sabbath lately, I was surprised to see the young men of that township indulging in the game of cricket. Now, sir, Ido not wish to iuveigh against tho manly pastime, as it ofttimes has a salutary offect on the system — keeping at a distance some of " the ills to which flesh is heir ;" but, seeing that the early closing movement is in force there, cannot time be found for it on week nights? They (the cricketers) seem to ignore tne divine injuction, " Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy." I repeat, that I was surprised at such an act of Sabbath desecration in a township of ten or twelve years standing, and, which, during the most of that time, has been supplied with gospel ministrations. As the evil influence at work is not confined to them individually, but is gradually drawing into its vortex those children of immature years who frequently go to look on, surely it is high time that such practices were exposed, and the voice of Christianity lifted up against them. Trusting that the Waipori 1 Cricketers — many of whom I esteem otherwise — may see the folly of doing that which is unseemly on fchs Lord's clay. — I am &c, S. 9th November, 1874.
