ROXBURGH TOWN COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Town Council of Roxburgh was held on October 19th. Present : J. Beighton, Esq.,. Mayor, and Crs. Woodhouse, Mackay, Cormack, Boyd, Ormond, and J. Beighton. Minutes of last meeting were read and con' firmed. Letters read from Town Clerks of Lawrence, Clyde, and Milton. Copies of Bye Laws received from Lawrence and Milton. Proposed by Cr. Mackay, and seconded toy Cr. Cormact, " That the following notices be posted up : — ' Notice is hereby given, thai; from and after this date all parties are cautioned against allowing cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, &c, &c., to stray within the boundaries of the town. ' Any party so offending will be proceeded against.' " — Carried. Proposed by Cr. Mackay, seconded by Cr. Beighton, " That the Town Clerk be instructed to write to the Provincial Secretary, com* plaining of delay in opening up block of laucl
on run No. d<?9, niithorised by the Provincial Council and reported upon by Mr. M'Kerrow; and also to ask what steps the Government intend taking towards opening up the block of land on Miller and Henderson's run reported upon by Mr. M'Kellar." — Carried. Proposed by Cr. Mackay, seconded by Cr. Boyd, " That, owing to the great amount of public inconvenience caused by the want of a Resident Receiver and Clerk of Court at Roxburgh, it is highly desirable that the Government be written to, asking if they will cause such an officer to be stationed here ■without delay." — Carried.
