Richeri, ex-Governor of New Caledonia, has arrived here. A despatch boat was sent to Noumea with a telegram ordering him instantly to vacate the Governorship and return to* Sydney and thence home. Col. Alleyhernois takes charge of office to carry out Rebonist's orders. Messrs Russell and Samuels are still negotiathe Californian mail arrangements. The matter is almost closed. Both representatives resolved to continue joint action re mail service. The Pacific and Sydney Marine Insurance Company's loss is £5000 each by the loss of the Kingsbridge. Mr. Yogel is still in Victoria. The new wool is arriving slowly j only one cargo has yet been cleared. The Congregational Union have closed their annual session. They declared against continuing their denominational education system. Melbourne, October 19th. Shannon has been acquitted of the Schnapper Point murder. Goldsbrough and Break o'Day are .in favour for the Melbourne Cup. The latter won the Ballarat Cup easily. Haricott won the Ballarat Handicap. The Speaker has issued invitations to a banquet in honour of the Governor and the Hon. Mr. Francis prior to their visiting England. Brisbane October 19th. Advices from the Palmer Goldfields report the miners starved out, and leaving in hundreds. A fpmine is feared next winter unless the Government open communication, ' A woman named M'Kay, at Brisbane, poisoned herself and three children. Adelaide, October 19th. The exports of breadstuffs for the year amount to 83,000 tons. Breadstuffs firm, wheat 5s 4d.
