Messrs. Diiitee Stewatit, and Co. report as follows for the week endmg October 21 : —
Fat Cattle. — A moderate supply of 105 head was yarded for the weekly sales, all of which were disposed of at fully iate prices — indeed, prime peas were a shade dearer. Best pens of bullocks brought up to .£7; do. cows, up to £14. We quote prime quality at fully 45s per 1001 b. We sold, at yards, 40 head at full rates, and have placed, privately, 60 head for forward delivery.
Pat Calves. — About lO^were penned, but, being of medium quality, brought only £2 for top price. We sold 12 head. Fat Sheep. — A bout 1,000 were penned. Although being a moderate supply, a considerable reduction upon late prices had to be submitted to, owing no doubt to fbe fact that the trade has been fully supplied by private sales. Best cross-breds brought 31s ; ordinary to medium, 19s to 25s ; merinos, 12s, At the yards we sold 500, and nave privately placed 400.
Fat Lambs. — About 50, fair quality, were penned, and sold at from 103 to 143 6d. We sold 40. and privately 400 at 10s-6d. Store Cattle. — There is an additional demand for quiet bullocks and spayed cows, at from £4 10s to £5 10s for former, and £3 10s to £4 10s for latter. We have sold 200 head, mixed ages and sexes. Store Sheep.— Thoro is good demand for dry cross-breds fit for grazing. We have no transactions to report in other classes. Of the former we have sold 4,000. We quote hoggets at lls to 12s ; 4-tooth and upwards, 10s 6d to 14s.
V7ool. — Catalogues of the London wool sales to 3rd September, to hand by the Albion to-day, fully confirm the telegraphic reports previously received as to tho advance in prices at the August-September series. Scoured and washed wools appear on the whole to havo fetched full prices, but greasy clips we consider have sold somewhat irregularly. The arrival of a number of American buyers in Melbourne (many of whom, we understand, intend to vieit this market) gives promise of active business in this market during the coming season. Sheepskins. — Our weekly sale thk day was fully attended, and. although the prices obtained did not reach the exceptional figures realised iv some instances last week, values on the whole were well maintained. Butchers' green skins fetched, for cross-breds, 5s 6d to 7s 2d; merinoes, 5s to 5s 7d ; dry skins, 2s 6d to 4s sd, according to quality. Hides. — Y?o offered about 100 wet-salted ; but bidding was exceedingly languid, and only a few changed hands. We quote good sound hides at 4d per lb,
Tallow. — Nonfi offered. Grain. — There has boon more enquiry for wheat during the week, and prices ore, if anything, firmer, especially for prime ■sorts, ■which wo quote at 5s to 5s 3d ; medium 4s to 4s 9d ; inferior, 4s to 4s 3d. Barley is without change. Oats continue very scarce, and in request at 5s 3d lo 5s 6d for'feed and milling sorts respectively.
