SHEEP ASSESSMENT,

The She<=p and Cattle Assessment for 1874-5 received at the Treasury, not including certain Southland returns, amounted to 'L 54,015. ■

A correspondence is published in the •Marlborongh Press,' which is not without . Borne amusing points. It appears that the ' people of Picton — or Borne of them — have bees highly scandalised because the N.Z.S.S;, Company's steamers occasionally discharge their cargo (als9 passing entries, &c., : ) oh , S«ndays, and a petition was presented to the Superintendent on the subject. In reply, his Honor writes, forwarding a copy, of » letter which Mr Ledger, the. Wellington . manager of the company, addressed to the Secretary of Customs on the 'subject.
