Messrs. J. and A. Maoiean report, for tbi week ending Ist October, as follows :—: —

Pat Cattle. — 110 head were yarded at the weekly market on Wednesday, the greater proportion of which were only middling quality, consequently prime beef ruled high, and prices ruled vory firm. Our sales consisted of 62 heal "on account of Messrs. Fichol, Borrie. and others, which were all taken by the trait' at prices ranging from £8 to £12 for bullocks, and from £6 to £14 ss. for cows. Wo quote really prinio beef, 35s to 40s per lOOIbB ; medium and inferior, 20s to 27s 6d, accor&ing to quality. Fat Sheep. — About 1200 of all sorts were penned, • and the demand being good, the whole number wore taken at prices ranging from 17s 6d to 28s each for eross-breds, and from 13s 6d to 15s 6d for merinos. Our sales consisted of 230 cross-breds, which realised from 27s 3dto 28s each. We quote prime quality cross-bred mutton, 5d per lb ; ditto merino. 3jd to 4d. Fat Calves. : — 21 were forward, which wo sold at from £1 9s to £3 7s 6d each, according to size and condition. Store Cattle. — At our monthly sale at the West Taieri Yards this day, we sold 130 head of good store cattle. Tho attendance was good, but the bidding was not so spirited as the quality of the cattle demanded, which may be accounted' for by the very bad weather and the backwardness of the spring grass. The prices realised were as follows, viz.: — For cows, from £3 10s to £5 ; steers, £3 iss to £6 2s 6d. We will also sell at the above yards, on ! Tuesday, the,, 20th instant, on account 'of Messrs. Ayson and Grant, .in lots t t o suit puri i chasers, 600 'head of really good "quiet wellbred cattle, consisting of bullocks, spayed cows and heifers, all over two years old. Store Sheep. — Wo have numerous enquiries for cross-bred and merino wethers, in the wool; but there are very few, if any, offering, and may be quoted from 12s to 14s for the former, and from 8s to 9s 6d for the latter ; merino ewes, with cross-bred lambs at foot, 9s 6d to 10s. Wool and Sheepskins. — At our weekly sale ' on Friday last, we sold several lots of wool, at market rates ; also about 1000 sheepskins, which realised, for green half-breds, from ss. 9d to 6s 4d each ; merinos, from 4s 6d to 5s ; dry station skins, from 2s Gd to 5s Gd, according to weight. nides. — 64 were catalogued, which realised from 18s 9d to 24s each, according to weight and condition. Good heavy weights are enquired for at quotations, and any lots coming forward' meet 'with ready sale. Our weekly •sale of wool, sheepskins, and hides, &c, for the future will be held at our rooms, every Friday, at 3 o'clock. Grain. — There have been enquiries for wheat during the week, but we do not know of any large lots having changed hands ; quotations are unaltered, viz., good milling parcels, 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; medium and inferior, 4s to 4s 3d ; fowls' feed, 3s 6d to 4s. Prime malting samples of barley, 5s ; medium and inferior very dull of eale, at from 3s 6d to 4s 6d. Oats contimie very scarce and in good demand ; good feed may be quoted at from 4s 4d to 4s 6d ; prime milling samples, 4s 6d to 4s 9d.
