Distance, 1 mile j nomination, 1 soy. ; acceptance, 1 bx>v., with sweep of 1 soy. added, amount of Bweep to go to second horse.** Nominations to be sent to the Secretary, with qualification, on Thursday, October Ist, 1874. Acceptances receivable up to twelve o'clock noon on day ol races. HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, of 20 boys. Open to all horses. Distance, one mile and and a half, over six flights of hurdles Bft. 6in. high. Nomination, 1 soy. ; acceptance, 1 soy. Nominations and acceptances same time as Flying Handicap. HACK SELLING RACE, of 10 soys. For all untrained horses. Distance, 1 mile ; entrance, 15s. No weight under 9afc. Winner to be sold for £15 j any surplus to go to the race fund. * CONSOLATION HANDICAP, of 10 soys. For all beaten horses. Distance, 1 mile ; entrance, 15s. Three horses to start, or no race. BULKS. 1. The rules of the Tuapeka Jockey Club will be strictly adhered to. 2. No person allowed to enter a horse unless a subscriber of one guinea to the funds. 3. Jockey costume insisted on. 4. First race to start at one o'clock p.m. sharp. 6. Five per cent to be deducted from all prizes. 6. Three horses to start in each event, or no race. 7. Rifleman is a dark chesnut horse, 16 hands high, of great substance and power, bred by Mr. G. Duppa, of Nelson ; he is by Sir Hercules, out of Nora Creina, by Plenipotentiary. Sir Hercules by Cap-a-pie, out of Paraguay; his dam, Nora Creina, chestnut mare, imported from Ireland to Canterbury by Mr. Godfrey ; Sir Hercules, bred by Mr. Smith, New South "Wales, purchased by Mv, Redwood, and brought to Nelson, together with his daughters Flora and Zoe. The Stock of Sir Hercules have been the most successful on the turf in New Zealand as well as in Australia, viz. — Barbello, Potentate, Phoebe, Wetsail, and Miss Rowej also tho present celebrated sires The Barb, Taragon, and Yattendon, which, as race horses and sires, have proved themselves the best in New South Wales. Rifleman has proved a sure foal-getter, and as a sire of weight-carrying hacks and carriage horses, -which for durability and style I stand unrivalled, and his stock have commanded the highest price in Canterbury.
