Commercial.

Messrs Driver bTEWART, and Co. report as follows for the week ending 16th September :—: — Fat Cattle. — A very full supply of 180 head were yarded at the weekly sale to day, as has been the case for several market days past, a large portion of those penned were little better than stores. Of the above number, 25 only were turned out unsold. Best bullocks brought from £9 to £14 10s ; ordinary, from £5 5s to £7 10s ; best cows, from £10 to £14 ; ordinary, from £5 to £7. Any pens of really prune quality were very spiritedly competed for, and brought prices equal to 35s per lOOlba, which we quote as the present market value. Our sales consisted of 50 head on account of Messrs .\iiller, M'Laren, Liudsay, and others, and we have also placed 50 head privately during the week.

Eat Calves. — About 20 were penned, which brought up to £3 10a, according to quality. Fat Sheep. The market was again fully supplied with, about 1600, most of which were of very good quality. Only 1000, however, were taken away by the trade, the balance being held. over. Those sold brought 16s to 25s for cross-breds, and 10s (id for merinoes. We sold at the yards 350 at above rates, and have also placed 400 for forward delivery. We quote prime crossbred mutton at 4d to 4£d, and merino do, 3*d to 3J.

fctore cattle. — A very active demand is now springing up for good grown cattle for paddock grazing^ which are readily saleable at from 4 to 5 guineas for bullocks, and 3 to 4 guineas for spayed cows. We have placed 300 head of bullocks for delivery on a station at £4

Store Sheep. — Although there is an active demand for sheep of almost every description, we have but few transactions to report, holders' ideas as to value being considerably in excess of those of purchasers. Cross-breds, 4-tooth and upwards, are saleable at from 12s to Hs ; young merino wethers, at from 8s to 9a ; full-mouthed ditto, 7s to 7s 6d. We have during the week sold 1500 of various sorts.

Station Property. — We have to report having sold, on account of Mr. F. Wenfcworth, Esq., his VVantwood Estate and stock, situate at the Hokanuis, late Province of Southland, consisting of 30,000 acres of freehold, with valuable improvements, together with 30,000 long-wool sheep, for the sum of £90,000, P. R. M'Coughan, Esq., of "Victoria being the purchaser. sheepskins. — Our usual weekly sale today was well attended, 'and considering the quality of the skius offered the prices obtained may be quoted as fully 3d per skin over those of last week. Butchers' skins, ordinary quality, fetched — merinos, 4s 3d to4s 7d ; cross-breds, 5s 3d to 6s. Dry station skins, lOd to ss, according to quality. Hides. — A few only were offered, which at 16s for light weights, and 17s to 18s 6d for medium to heavy do. Tallow. — For local consumption, there is a good demand, and we have sold several parcels of inferior at £24 to £26 ; ordinary. £28 per ton. Grain. — Wheat continues in very weak demand, at 4s 9d for prime samples ; ordinary, 4a 3d to 4s 6d ; inferior, 4s. Barley is also slow of sale, the bulk of the lots offering being of inferior quality. We quote prime malting at 5s ; ordinary 4a Od ; interior, 43 to 4s 3d. For oats there ha,3 been an acLive demand during the past week, and good milling may be quoted 2d per bushel higher — say 4s 5d to 4s 7d. Seed up to 4s 9d ; ordinary feed, 4s 3d to 4s 4d-.
