Melbourne, September 10th. Lady Bowen and family were passengers per mail steamer Nubia. Sir George is likely to proceed to England in December. The California steamer Mikado arrived at San Fraucis'io on the 30th August. Mr. Parkes, the Sydney Premier, recently made a tour in Riverina, and was handsomely entertained. Very severe weather has been experienced in all the colonies, accompanied by heavy gales. The Torres Straits steamer Jedda is now in port. The Melbourne Cricket Club is likely to send a team to New Zealand this season. A slight shock of earthquake was felt on the evening of the 30th. The Otago was to have sailed yesterday, but was in consequence of having stuck in the river for several hours. Two magnificent pure-bred rams, from Hobart Town, intended for shipment to Otago, had to be destroyed yesterday, in consequence of having shown unmistakeable symptoma of foot-and-mouth disease. An actress known as Miss Mortimer fell down the stairs of her hotnl last night. She died this morning. • A good deal of interest is felt over the Sydney races. On Saturday last the Derby was won easily by Sir H. Robinson's colt Kingsborough, Mr. Tait's Melbourne being second, and Sir H. Robinson's Heredale third. Madame Arabella Goddard, on her return, was greeted with acclamation and crowded houses. She visits New Zealand in about three weeks. Parliament is summoned to meet on the 3rd of November.
