(From the Dunedin Dailies. ) Wkt-lington, September 2nd. It ia understood that Mr. Douglas, manager of the Australian and New Zealand Land Company, arranged with the Government of this Province for the purchase of 20,000 acres of the Orana block. The terms of purchase are that Mr. Douglas pays 12s 6d an acre for the land, and undertakes within a given period to expend at least £10,0000 in improving the property ; and settle 70 families on special settlements, each family to have an allotment of 100 acres. The transaction needs confirmation by order in Council. Cleared outwards —The Melanie, schooner, for Dunedin, with 81,8G0 feet of timber cousiyned to Russel. Kitchie, an! Co. i September 3. The Agency is authorised to state that the statements whish have appeared as to what took place or transpired in the conversation between Mr. Stafford aud Mr. Yogel are altogether incorrect. Mr. Yogel is going to Sydney about the electric telegraph cable, and not about the San Francisco mail service, Mr. Russell being entrusted with negotiating the latter affair. It is understood that the necessary order in Council, authorising the sale of 20,000 acres at~Oranato Douglas and Co., was signed to-day by his Excellency the Governor. Auckland, September 2nd. Attempts were made yesterday to serve a detainer on the ship Miltiades, 5 in Rangitoto channel, while going ont. The detainer was issued from the Admiralty Court, at the suit of the crew of the Lady Bowen, for salvage. The crew of the Miltiades threatened violence to the officer of Court if he attempted to board the vessel. The men therefore tied the writ to the cable and retreated, The ship sailed during the night.
