WARDEN'S COURT, LAWRENCE.

(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., Warden.) Wednesday, 26th AxrausT.

W. J. Dyer applied, through Mr. Gtooday for a mining lease. Granted. Ah Tin and others applied for a water race. Mr. King for the applicants. This was from the Tuapeka River, and such applications have always been refused. The same party applied through Mr. King for a diversion of the Tuapeka. Creek. Granted on the condition that it was not to interfere with the flow of the tailings. Ching Hee and another applied through Mr. King for an extended claim between the Chinese Camp and the Tuapeka Eiver, also far a water race. Both applications were granted. Bleioitt v. Ah Chew. — Complaint of mining on Crown lands without a miners' right. Fined, 205., and costs of Court, lls. Same v. Ah' Lam. — A similar case; was similarly dealt with. Re John Blackie.— His Worship said that he wished to correct an impression that had gone forth and appeared in thepapers as to what he said in refusing this application. What he said was to the effect that postponing the case might give.the applicant an opportunity of saving some £10 or £12 paid by him for survey fees, by coming to an arrangement with some party about them, and thereafter withdrawing (which would j make it less likely for another to intervene.) What he said did not warrant the construction that had been put on it, and the publication of such statements was calculated to bring the administration of justice into contempt. He thought, however, that the paper acted from mistake, and not from an intention to wilfully misrepresent.

John Stapleton applied for a remdencel area at Tuapeka Flat* Granted. ' "'" William Johnston's application for a rent dence area was adjourned to view the land. Thomas Clancy's application for a residence area at Evans Flat was adjourned to view the land. David King's application for an extended claim of one acre at Tuapefca Flat was allowed to stand over".
