(From our own Correspondent.) Wellington, 25th August. Mr. "Yogel moved an amendment to Mr. Fitzherbert's dissolution resolution, which was carried by 45 to 19. A division was taken on Mr. Swanson's motion that the Government circulate the Abolition of Provinces Bill two months before the meeting of Assembly, indicating what they intend to substitute. The Government refused. Division — Government, 49 ; against, 21. ** Dunedin August 25th. An inquiry into- the caus&of the fire has been proceeding this afternoon, and the evidence of Guthrie and Lainnch's manager and others taken, but little light has been thrown on its origin. August 26, 9.30. a.m. At the Coroner's inquest held yesterday on the fire, an open verdict was returned. Mr. Stout, member for Caversham, addressed his constituents last night. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. At a meeting of the Opposition held in Wellington yesterday, attended by 24 members, it was resolved to form a New Zealand. Constitutional Association. Mr. Fitzherbert, in moving liis resolution, will avoid touching on irritating subjects, aud will only refer to the necessity, of appealiig to the country before making any constitutional changes. The Otago Waste Lands Bilihas passed the Council. Mr. Shepherd introduced the Clyde Water Works BiH yesterday, authorising the Corporation to raise £2000. Every effort will be made to pass it, but it is doubtful if" there will be time to pass it" through the Cbuhcil . The Distilleries Act Amendment Bill was passed without division. Both Houses combine in giving the Governor a farewell dinner 00, Friday night*
