THE HOSPITAL MEETING.
(To the Editor.) Sib, — Although I consider the ruling of the President, Mr. Carew, at the meeting last night to be entirely erroneous, I shall not say much on that subject. I merely remark that the Hospital Ordinance, by which Mr. Carew professed to be guided, lays it down distinctly that in order that a contributor may qualify himeslf to rote at the annual election of officers in January, he must hare paid his Subscription at least a month before, that is during the previous year, while Mr. Carew decided exactly contrary — viz., that the subscription only qualified a contributor to rote during the year the subscription was paid in. If Mr. Carew's ruling is right, then the Ordinance is wrong, and no election can take place in January. My object in writing now is to propose that the contributors ascertain from some competent authority what qualification is necessary to enable them to Tote at an ordinary meeting of subscribers, called for other purpose than the election of officers or committee. My own opinion is that every contributor of say one shilling, paid during , the present year, would be entitled to vote at ' th» generaUmeeting of subscribers referred to in Rule XIII. Then call a Bpecial meeting of contributors (under Kule XXXVIII.) "To $ake into consideration the past, present, and future management of the Tuapeka Hospital." Unless something of this kind is done at once, subscribers will rapidly fall off, and the Committee will find themselves in a short time with no funds to meet their liabilities. — I am, &c., Subscbibee.
j£ [To the Editor.) Sir,. — After having seen the abortiveness of the adjourned quarterly meeting of subscribers it would not be proper for the member* of Committee to take part in any meeting in future until each member became a - fobscriber legally. Any business they may fcftve done since January, if shown on the minutes, should be cancelled, seeing none of $hf (Jomniittee (except such as may be life
governors) are qualified subscribers. All tho disbursements made by the Treasurer are illegal if lie has not paid his subscripton since December last. But the greatest absurdity of all is in the Committee (who appear to be no Committee) calling quarterly meetings of subscribers (who appear to be no subscribers) to be presided over by a gentleman (who appears not to be a subscriber either) who only finds out at the meeting that no one hitherto had been acting according to laws. Truly the affairs of that hospital require to be looked into. — I am, &c, Suggestive.
