MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
The result of the polling for Councillors for the East and West Wards, and for two auditors for the town of Lawrence, which took place on Saturday last, was as follows. The West Ward was a compulsory election. BAST WARD. King 95 Horace Lyne Squires • « ' 48 Thomas Arthur 52 After the declaration of the poll, two or three of the candidates, successful and unsuccessful, addressed the people assembled. The successful candidates promised to do their utmost for the interests of the Ward "j they had been elected to represent in par- | ticular, and for the benefit of the town in general; and the unsuccessful candidates, while thanking those ratepayers who had Toted for them, were not discomfited by their defeat, but thought there was not much to be gained by the position, and therefore they gracefully retired from the scene of action.
