An accident happened to Mrs. M'Gannon, matron of tlie Tuapeka Hospital, yesterday niorning, of such a nature as will prevent her from performing her duties forat least a couple of mouths. The accideut occurred in this way : M^'s. Skiuner, of Waituhuna, who lias lately been a patient iv the Hospital, died early on Friday morning, and about mid-day Mr. Skinner, not knowing that his wife was dead, came in from Waitahuna to enquire for her. The matron, eager to communicate the mournful tidings as gently as possible, on pei ceivinjf Mr. Skinner approaching the Hospibal ran out to meet him, and in her haste fell and broke her leg above the ankle. The broken limb was speedily attended to by the Kesident Surgeon, and we 'are informed the patient is getting on well. Mb. The Tapanui ploughing match, the prizes for which are advertised in another column, takes place on Tuesday nexfc.
