MEDICAL COMFORTS (To the Editor.)

Sir. — Since, Mr. Squires's report on the enormous consumption of medical comforts in our local Hospital, several valuable letters have appeared in your paper on that subject some investigating the cause of such waste, some reproving, and others suggesting remedies for the future that the same may not occur again, fhese have not been without, good results, for I am glad to see that the Visiting Conimitiee have complied with the tenor of some of those letters by thoroughly investigating the matter and laying the whole before the public. They deserve the hearty thanks of the subscibers for so doing. It was high time that some one stepped in and put a stop to such extravagant waste of public money. There are' two .suggestions thai I wonld make ; one is that no contractor who supplies the hospital should be allowed to act on the Committee,, for as long as the present system exists of allowing contractors on the committee, things can never work satisfactorily. The other suggestion is that the Resident burgeon be not allowed to sit in. Committee, except when called upon by^fche Committee to explain any particular matter. I think if these two suggestions and the jjresenfc plan drawn up by the Visiting Committee are carried into effect, the affairs- of the hospital would then go on satisfactorily to all concerned, I hepe th,ere will be a good atten-. dance at the meeting on Tuesday night of all those who have got the- welfare of that valuable institution at heart, to consider over these important matters. —I am, &c, A^Bujqschibeb.
