NOMINATION OF COUNCILLORS.

Tho nomination of Councillors for the ensuing municipal year took place on Monday, at noon, in tbe Council Chambers. The Mayor occupied tbe chair, aud opened the procodings by stating that due publicity bad been given of the nomination in the local paper, from which he read the advertisement. He then opened the nomination papers in the following order : —

MIDDLE WAED.

R. Williams proposed, and W. Hayes seconded, William Sheath as a fit and proper person.

There not being any other candidate, Mr. Sheath was declared duly elected.

EAST WABB.

R. Williams proposed, and M. Fraer seconded, Alexander Humphrey. A. Ferguson proposed, and J. H. Pressly seconded, William Henry Cox.

WEST TVABD.

For this Ward no nomination papers had been lodged, co the compulsory clause of tie Ordinance had to be reverted to, when

W. Hayes proposed, and Cr. Walker seconded, M. Fraer.

W. Meara proposed, and A. Armstrong seconded, James Middlennss.

J. Harrop proposed, and W. Mears seconded, Richard Williams.

W. Mearß proposed, and A. Humphrey seconded, W. E. Farrer.

R. Williams proposed, and M. Fraor seconded, Jonas Harrop.

Mr. Humphrey said he had been induced to come forward for tbe East Ward on tbe understanding that no one else was coming forward. He had no wish to occupy the position, and would gladly retire in favor of Mr. Cox.

Mr. Sheath, in a few words, thanked the ratepayers, and assured fcliem that he would, endeavor to give the pdsitlon In wLicL. Lekad been placed all the attention he could for the benefit of the town of Lawrence.

The nomination of Auditors was then proceeded witb.

R. Hills proposed, and Q-. Jeffery seconded, George B. King.

A. M'Kinlay proposed, and GK Walker seconded, Horace Lync Squires. R. Williams proposed, and W. Hayes seconded, Thomas Arthur.

The Mayor then stated that the election for the Councillors and Auditors nominated would take place on Saturday, Ist August. The proceedings then terminated.
