TUAPEKA ANNUAL PLOUGHING MATCH.

The annual ploughing match was held in one of Mr. J. R. Gascoigne'a paddocks yesterday. , The hard frost in the morning prevented the competitors from starting work until noon, and even then the ground was too hard for good work to be doflfe. The same cause occasioned the stoppage of the only double-furrow plough on the ground, Mr. Treloar's. One of the circular revolving coulters broke, and as another could not be obtained, the ploughman had to desist, much to the mortification of many of the visitors, who had never before seen a double-furrow plough at work. There were twelve single-furrow ploughs entered, six in class a, five in class b, and one in the junior class. The ploughing after the frost got off the ground was very good. Most people presenc competent to judge thought the work done was better than that at Waitahuna by the same men. Mr. Gascoigne will therefore be enabled to congratulate himself upon having a good piece of ground turned over for the most part in a workmanlike manner. That gentleman kindly provided refreshments for all who liked to partake of them ; in fact, had there been double the number present there would have enough and to spare. Mr. Cleary also had a refreshment marquee on the ground, and appeared to be well patronised. Iv the afternoon there were between two and three hundred people on the grouad, and no doubt had the weather been milder the number of competitors would have been far larger. Considerable praise is due to the Committee for the manner in which the arrangements were carried out. The ploughmen appeared to be thoroughly satisfied with the treatment' they received, also with the award of the judges, who were : for ploughing, A. Drysdale, A. Robertson, andßobt. Humphrey ; judges of harness and horses, Messrs. W. Draper and D. Stevenson. J Cl/ASS A. Ploughman. " Owner. Plough. M, Stewart, Ist prize M. Stewart Pouton James Brown, 2nd do. W. Sheath do. Robt..
