Commercial.
A Mebceb reports for the week ending Juno 26th, retail priceß only :—: — Fresh butter, in ilb. and lib. prints, best quality, Is. 9d. per lb.; 6econd quality, Is. 7d. to Is. Bd. per lb. Fresh butter, hi lumps, Is. 6d. to Is. 7d. per lb.; salt butter, Is. 6d. per lb. The supply of fresh butter is still falling off, and the grocers now cannot get enough to supply their customers. A slight advance has taken place, and a further rise is looked for. Cheese, best quality, lOd. to Is.; side and rolled bacon, lOd. to Is.; beef ham, 7d. to Bd.; colonial hams, Is. to Is. 2d. Engh'sh hams —Although tho market is well supplied at present, there is very little sale even at reduced prices, Is. sd. to Is, 6d. per lb. Eggs ato getting inrao plentiful, and Telailmg at 2s. per doz. Oapstick, Duthie, and Capstice: report for the week ending 29th June :—: — At Mr. George Taylor's sale, Puerua, on Tuesday, the 23rd inst., cows brought from 31s. to 85s. each; 22 head of calves and yearlings brought 16s. each. At our yards on Friday, 26th instant, 2ioo merino ewes were yarded, and 1460 were sold at 6s. each ; 208 well bred lambs, mixed sexes, 155.; 37 Leicester ewes, from 17s. to '12s. each; 50 cross-bred fat ewes, 11s. 9d. each. Sold privately, 208 cross-bred wethers at 12s. 6d. each. Horses. —G-ood heavy draughts are in demand at full current rates j hacks and medium draughts are easier to purchase. Cattle. —G-ood store bullocks are inquired for, but are scarce to be had. Sheep. —Cross-breJstore wethers arc wanted for turnips, but scarce. Other classes —viz., merino ewes and wethers —are not so much required at present, on account of scarcity of grass. Grain of every description is easier; millers here are full stocked for some months to come. Potatoes range from £4 to £4 10s. per ton; bags, Is. each. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report for the week ending 27th June as follows: — Fat Cattle.—Of the 120 head yarded this week, about one-half were good quality, and the rest little better than stores. We sold, ou account of Messrs. M'Donald, Sawers, Wallace, and Miller, 64 head at from £6 ss. to £9 15s. for bullocks, and £3 to £7 for cows —prices which are equal to 255. per 1001 b. tor good quality, and 18s. to 20s. for middling do. Fat Calves. —Twelve head were yarded and Bold at from 255. to 465. oach. Fat Sheep. —A full supply came forward, 1300 being penned, We sold 250 merino ewes at 6s. 6d.; 60 half-breds at 12s. 6d.; 60 fat lambs at 7s. 9d. Other sales were : 300 cross-breds at from 11s. to 135., and 120 ■ merino wethers at 7s. 6d. The balance were turned out, being very inferior. We also sold privately 350 merino wethers, delivered on station, at 8s each. We quote prime quality half-breds 2-id per lb ; do. merinoes, 2£xl. Store Cattle. —We have inquiries for grown , cattle, but have no transactions to report. , Store Sheep. —Very little business is doing in tUis ulass of sto=k. We have buyers foiyoung merinoes and half-breds. Our sales comprise 800 merino wethers at 6s 6d; and ' 250 half-bred ewes at 10s. . We quote halfbreds at 9s to 9s 6d ; do. lambs, 7s to 7a 6d ; merino wethers, 63 6d to 7s. Horses. —The demand is well maintained for both heavy draught aud strong eoachers. We soLl at our yards on Thursday, on account of Messrs Yeend and Pope, 20 head of their surplus coach horses at from £27 103; and • on Saturday, on account of Mr. John B. Blair, 24 head heavy draughts, ex Otago from Melbourne, at £35 to £80. We quote first class 'draughts at £65 to £75 ; medium do-, £33 to £45; good hacks and light harness horses, £25 to £30 j medium do., £14 to £17; light and inferior £5 to £8. Shoepshins. —Our sale on Wednesday waa well attended, and all the lots met with brisk competition. The prices obtained were as follow : —Butchers' skins, merinocs, 2s 4d. to 2s 9d ; eross-breds 3s 7d to 3a 9d ; dry station, Is 9d. to 5s 5d according to quality. Hides are in improved demand. We sold a considerable number at from 15s to 15s 6d for medium weights, up to 20s 6d and 22s for heavy. Grain. —The market remains without noticeable change. Wheat : Good samples are worth 4s 8d to 4s 9d ; inferior, 4s 3d to 4s 6d. Oats are in good request at 4s to 4s 2d for feed, and 4s 3d to 4s 4d for milling samples. \
Mr. Bbadshaw reports the following transactions for to-day: —Sales : Mr. William Thomson's farm at Green Island, containing 90 acres, for the sum of £1,750, being about £19 9s per acre; National Insurance Company's shares, £1 10s.; National Bank of New Zealand, £3 4s. Sellers: National Bank of New Zealand, £3 ss; National Insurance Company, £1 10s; South British Insurance Company, £2 8s; Standard Insurance Company, 15s ; Bank of New Zealand, £17 15s.
