RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, LAWRENCE.
(Before E. H. Carew, Esq., R.M.) Tuesday, 30th June. Several cases in which G. B. King, as manager of the Bcaumontand Tuapeka Water Raco Company (Registered), sued for calls wero withdrawn, in deference to a recent decision of his Worship against the company in a similar case. Ferguson v. King (as and being manager for the Beaumont and Tuapeka Water Race Company, Registered). — Claim of £7 7s. 6d. for advertising and printing done for the company. Mr. M'Coy appeared for the defeadant. Several tecnnical points were raised for the defence, after which Mr. Ferguson proved the claim, the ordevs f 01? which were received, from Messrs. Hayes, Squires, and King, successive managers of the company. Mr. M'Coy urged that no sufficient proof had been given that these persons were managers. An adjournment was granted to allow the plaintiff to produce some evidence in support of hi» case. His Worship observed that the Court could not in any way favor obstructiveness. Mr. M'Coy said the plaintiff had succeeded lately in a case with the company on a purely legal point, and he thought himself justified in urging technicalities in resisting this claim on that account, otherwise he would not have advised any defence. Harrobin v. Pope. — Mr. Henderson applied for a reheariug in this case on several grounds. Mr. M'Coy appeared for Harrobin. Hia Worship said there, had been some misunder- ■ standing, he thought, as to whether an adjournment would be consented to on the hist hearing. He would grant a rehearing on condition that the amount sued for was deposited, with £2 2s. 6d., and an amendment allowed of the summonses. Tho case to be mentioned next day.
