THE LABOR MARKET.

Mr Skene reports : —There is a good 'supply labor in the market this week, although' there is a complete dearth of- ploughmen) and upwards of twenty farmers have had to go away ■without them.' Women servants' are as difficult- to be had as ever, and really good girls get splendid wage's. Men employed .in , .bunding trades are seemingly satisfied, ' and- such a thing as an idle mason, or -carpenter, ke., ii ' not known. All indoor tradesmen are ■ fully employed ; the winter being on us, shoe- -„, makers and tailors" should, be making their \ harvest. A 'good many day laborers are out of , work, buf'it is^f oily 'for such 4o look for any-, thing but miserable, broken work in town—' plenty of good chances for them in the country. Engagements have been made- during the week' at the following rates —Female cook*, L 52 and -upwards; housekeepers and ' barmaids, L 45 to L 52;5 2; general servants, from L 39 to L4O and L 45 ;'.young girls, 7s to 'los per week ; farm hands run from L 55 tq-L65; if -married, L7O to LyO, wife to cook,-&c; new arrivals are .on ft lower scale. Masons, carpenters,- &c, may, b« put down at «n average of 14s per day ; day laborer*, from 8s to 10s per day ; gardeners.
