THE STRAIGHT TIP FOR TEE ALEXANDRA MAYOR'S CUP.

(To the Editor.)

Sib, — For the last three years, the race for the Cup has been a very tame affair. Although the entries have been numerous, only one has come to the start ; consequently, it has been a walk over for three consecutive years. Although the intrinsic value of the Cup is small, yet I think there should be competition for it, or do away with it altogether, and from what I can learn, I am not singular in this respect ; in fact, it is rumored that thera are thiee entries already made, one of them being brought out by the Pubs., who are determined there shall be a race for it this time. The first on the list is Sly Boots, a very promising-looking horse ; but it is supposed he was spoilt in training, and it is with great difficulty he is kept on the course. If he can be kept straight, he will prove an ugly customer ; but 1 would suggest that he should be run in blinkers. The next on tlie list is Punch, a thorough stayer, and has proved himself in more than one event, and lias been landed a winner on several occasions by his clever jockey ; but lam afraid he has gone wrong in his poor feet lately, and that he will have to be scratched. The last, thqagh not least, is Wire-In. He is a promising colt ; stands seventeen hands high, with great strength of bone and stretch of limb/ with plenty of breeding, and looks every inch a winner, and is backed by his friends to win in a canter. He will be piloted by the best jock in the district, who is offering stol on the event ; and should the three start, I shall place them — Wire-In, 1 ; Punch, 2 ; Sly Boots, 3. But should my suggestion about the blinkers be acted upon, I should place Sly Boots well on Wire-Ins quarter — m fact, the hitter will have to gallop every inch of the way to be landed a winner. — I am, &0.,' Hqbsb.

winner. — .
