per day ; tailors, and shoemakers are quiet and contented ; youngsters of all kinds are busy at good wages — many should be at ichool instead. Messrs Dbivke, Stbwabt, and Co. report as follows, for the week ending June 10th t — Fat Cattle. — The weekly sale ■ waa agam supplied with 125 head, the majority of which were ordinary to mjjdium— -in fact, very few of prime quality were offeredi Every pen offered was sold, at about our late quotations. Anything really prime would have brought at least 2ss. per IOOIdb, while ordinary to medium was Only wdrth from 17s to 20s. We sold at the yards, 70 hbad, and have"placed 30 head for private delivery. Fat Sheep. — 800 croBS-breds and a few merinos were penned. Of these, about 350 cross- breda were sold at about 12s 6d to 13s 9d — the balance being turned out. We sold, for „ private delivery, 500 , cross-breds and merinos, mixed, at 2£<l to' 2£d, Fat Calves. — Only a few were penned, which we sold at from 15s to 40s each. Store Cattle. — We hav.e a. good enquiry for grown bullocks and spayed cows for winter feeding, at £4 to £5 for the former, and £3 to £3 10s for the latter. We have sold' during the week 200 head at various prices. Store Sheep. — We have no difficulty in disposing of very young merino ewes ' or crosstbreds, 4-tooth and upwards, at market quotations, while 2-tooth cross-breds and merino wethers are dull of sale. We have sold during the week 600 merino ewes at 4s to 4s 6d, 3000 at 4s. 6d, 1500' cross-breds at 9s 6d. We quote 2, ;*, and 6-tooth merino ewes at from 7s 6d v to 9s ; "merino wethers,at from 6s^d to 7s 6d ; cross-breds 4-tooth and upwards, 10s 6a" to Ila6d; do 2-tooth 9s to 9s 6d. . >■■ ■ - Wool. — We have no intellegence from the home market since the date of our last. In the local market business continues exceed- - Jngly languid. , The few lots offering — chiefly heavilyVconditioned greasy wools from the Lakes district, and fellmongers' scoured sorts— command very little attention from buyers, and to induce sales very considerable concessions upon the rates lately ruling have to be made. Sheepskins have come forward in very limited number during the past fortnight. Those offered, however, command full prices. Quotations : — Butchers' green skins, merinos, 2s Id to 2s 4d ; cross-bre'ds, 2s 9d to 3a 3d. Dry station skins, 1b 6d to ss, according to quality. ' " i Hides. — At our sale to-day, about 100 light to medium weights were catalogued, and after goodcompetition, sold at from 16s 6d to 19s. Tallow. — Owing to the great and unusual depression, in the Home Market, prices rule lower here than we have known for years past, and the dema^nd^forexf ort, even at the reduced rates, is very trifling. For local consumption, lioweyer, there ja "a moderate constant demand, especiaily'for bright, firm descriptions. Wft quote inferior to medium, mixed, £20 to £24 ; fine mutton, at £26 10a to £28. Grain. — We have no change to report since date of our last. Wheat is in full supply, especially medium qualities, which we qupte at 4s 6d ; prime, 4s 9d per bushel, Barley. — Choice malting ia readily saleable at 8s to 5s 3d ; ordinary, 4s 6d to 4s 9d. Oats continue in good request at from 4s Id to 4s 3J for ordinary to good feed, and up to 4s 4d for milling samples. - Mr. Bradshaw reports the following transactions for yesterday : — Sales : The farm of Mr. John Muir, at .Green* Island, coptaining 91 acres, for the aum of £3000, being at the rate of £32 18a per ' acre'; several lota of National Insurance shares, £1 10s j National Bank of New Zealand, £3 4s ; Standard Insurance Co., 15s. Sellers : National Insurance Co., £1 10s 6d ; South British Insurance Co., £2 10s j Standard Insurance Co., 15s ; Elizabeth Quartz ' Mining Co., £& ss.
