The ship British Admiral, 1800 tons, from London to Melbourne, was lost on Kings Island on the 23rd May. 79 of the passengers and crew were drowned, leaving only 9 survivors. The ship's chronometers, wer.e oat of order, and the officers were consequently out in reckoning. The ship struck on the west side of the Island, and went to- pieces' in a quartur of an hour. The survivors arrived, at Melbourne in a small ketch. The news created a profound sensation, as most of the lost persons had friends or relations in the colnny. In the Magistrate's Court ~to-day, Louis Bouisson, a laborer, was committed for trial for attempting to suffocate his wife, Kathleen Bouisson, on the 26th ult. The evidence disclosed that the poor woman had been subjected to brutal treatment. The prisoner had administered some drug in a glass of porter, and while his wife was insensible, had endeavored to suffocate her by cramming his hand in her mouth, and thrusting her tongue dsrvniT wards. She awoke and escaped, but afterwards suffered dreadful agony.
