Friday, June 5. The Hon. the Speaker took the chair at 2p-m. PRIVILEGE. Several members drew the attention of the Council to a leading article in the " Daily Times," and to their report of certain proceedings of the Council, which appeared in that journal. One of the matters referred to was that given in our Saturday.s telegrams, which brought forth the following notice of motion by Mr. J. C. Brownn fbr Monday.- " That, the Provincial Treasurer having'confirmed the following as a correct report of what he had said during a debate in Committee of Supply, vizT, "That during the recess, he (Mt. Turnbull) had managed to save a good deal of the public money that the hon. member (Mr. J. C. Brown) had desired to get hold of '—that, in the opinion of this Council, that gentleman should be called upon to substantiate or withdraw the imputation convey 6d in the term made use of." ESTIMATES. The House then went into Committee of Supply. The items £4,325, under the head Departmental Expenditure (Superintendent and Executive Council), including the item Secretary for Goldfields, £400, regarding which there had been so much discussion, was passed ; also the item t g£g2o, for printing, clerical assistance for Provincial Solicitor, and incidental expenses.
