{From our olon Correspondent.) Dunedin, June 2nd. In the Provincial Council to-dtiy, the following statement from the Provincial Auditor was read :—": — " I have the honor to transmit to yon t.he enclosed copy of tho Balance yheet and statement of expenditure for the year ending the 313t March, 1874, which was placed in my hauds yesterday afternoon. I have to direct your .attention to the omission on the document of the usual certificate of the Provinci.il Auditor, and to explain that the balance of the hooks has not yet been accurately brought out. That therefore I do not feel warranted in granting such certificate. I may, however, inform you that I have examined the statement of expenditure, and believe it correct. H. Livingston." In answer to Mr. Fish, the Speaker said a similar circumstance had not happened in this province before, and he was not aware of any clause in the Audit Act which would meet such a case : but he would look into the matter. Wellington, June 2nd. In, tlis Ansflioiin Synod, Mr. Sewell moved regarding Bishopric of Dunedin : " That this Synod, having carefully examined the circumstance's nnder which Dr. Jenner claims to be the first Bishop of the See <»f Dunedin, declares Dr. J«mier, not having been appointed in accordance with the laws of the Church of New Zualand, oucfht not to bo recognised as the first Bishop, and this Synod doth hereby recognise the Rev. Samuel !, Tarrant ISTevill, D.D., as the present and first Bishop of Dunedin." The motion was ayroetl to. t Dunedin, June 3, 9.50. a.m. Tn reply to a question asked by Mr. G. F. G. Browne, in re the petition of miners of Manuka Creek, yesterday, Mr. Reid, said the recommendation of the Goldfields Committee had been given effect to, and arrangements made with Mr. Murray, which resulted in the land being opened for mining. On the motion of Mr. Reid, the setting "apart of certain land for a public market at Lavvrence w.ia agreed to. In the R.M. Court yesterday, Thomas Connelly, .i sailor, was committed for trial for biting off a portion of Constable Rooney's nose. The accused had tried to rescue a drunken "Asiatic" female, and while he was afterwards being arrreated committed the injury described. A fire at Auckland has destroyed four buildings. The insurances are about €1500. and ars principally in the South British, and New Zeal-ind.
