LAWRENCE TOWN COUNCIL.
The adjourned meeting of the Town Council waa held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Present : The Mayor, and Crs. Arthur, Armstrong, and Ferguson. ■ A letter from Mr. Tuokey with reference to certain fencing done by him, and for which be had not been paid, was received. It appeared from the conversation that the settlement of the account bad been delayed owing to the work not being executed according to the specifications. Mr. Tuckey asked the . Council what they wished. him to do in the matter. Th^ letter- wa* referred to the Public Works Committee again report upon thq work, !, A letter was received from Mr. J. O. Brown requesting that the lease for- the section on which the- Congregational Church is built, might he ma.ie £ut in the names of . the trustees, ' . It was resolved that Mr. Brown's request be complied with on the understanding that h£ pays the costs in connection with, the matter. A letter was received from Mr. J. Williams . offering to accept the tram of £20. for bis garden, fence, &c,, situated on the new market reserve. ' On the motion of Or. Armstrong, seconded by Cr. Arthur, the offer was accepted.
A letter from Mr. R. A. Lawson, drawing the Council's attention .to his account amounting .to £80 Bs., rendered some time since, was read. Referred to the Finance Committee, a.,^ Accounts from W. H. Smith, Inspector, £10 ; and Thos. Buckley, £B,were/feferredto the Finance Committee. ■ ; Finance report for £111 10s. 3d. > was received and adopted. v > The Council agreed to place a box drain to cost about £1 10s., to be constructed through the embankment, to carry off drainage from Mr. Armstrong's sections on the Beaumont road. This expenditure was agreed on account of a certain drain having been constructed at Cr. Armstrong's expense, which was purely a Municipal work. The Public Works Committee were requested to consider the best use the? Gabriels bridge can be applied to. The Town Clerk was requested to obtain what tree's he could from Mr. Adams, who kindly offered some to the Corporation. He was also instructed to write asking Mr. J. C. Brown to obtain a supply of trees and shrubs from the Government. The Public Works Committee were requested to report upon the footpath applied for by Mr. Harris. The Council decided to take legal proceedings against all ratepayers who did not pay their rates on or before Saturday, 6th June. The Council then adjourned.
