ALEXANDRA.

{From our own Correspondent!) May 22nd. The old dredge Galatea has once more ' entered upon active service, a party of men having commenced working with her in the neighbourhood of Golden Beach. The Galatea is the last representative of the once numerous fleet of dredges belonging to Alexandra, and .should her usual good fortune stiU aj&Uereto her, the party will have no reason to regret their venture. . A memorial emanating from Clyde has been forwarded to the Provincial Council asking that a sum of money should bs placed on the estimates for the purpose of forming a roa.d from Nieper'a store along the i west side of the Molyntmx to Clyde. The Alexandra people considering that this was an attempt to divert the Teviot road from Alexandra have sent down a counter memorial praying that any money available for the road between the Teviot and Clyde should, be expended on the present line of road via Alexandra.

Some time ago the boys at the Clyde school sent a challenge to the Alexandra school to play a game of cricket. The challenge was accepted and on the 14th inst. the rival elevens met at Alexandra to try their skill. The Alexandras were captained by W. Telfotd, ajud; E, Harper acted as the valiant ©oinmander of the Clyde forces. Alexandra having won the toss sent their opponents to, the wickets but from the first it was evident .that Clyde stood no chance, the. Alexandra boys being a full size larger, besides having raore knowledge of the game. The' whole of tho Clyde wickets fell for the small total of 9 runs. Alexandra then went to the wickets and when an adjonrn- : ment was made for luncheon had: lost one wicket for 105 runs. As tha Clyde boys were so hopelessly overmatched the Alexandras did not finish their innings ; but scratch sidea were chosen from the two elevens and some lively play took place until evening when the boys returned to their homes apparently well satisfied with their day's amusement. Several of the boys showed considerable proficiency in the game, and with a little coaching will make good players. The following is the score of the match ;—; — j Clyde. - C* Thormalen cJ.
