A< Meecee reports, for the week ending 23rd May, retail prices only, as follows; — Fresh butter in £lb. and lib. prints, best quality, Is. 7d. per lb. ; Becond quality, Is. sd. to Is. 6d. per lb. - Fresh butter, in lumps, Is. 4d. per Id. Salt and powdered butter, Is. •Id. Salt' butter Is. 2d. to Is. 3d. per lb., best quality, but not much in demand, as the prices are considered too high ,to speculate on. Butter, although advancing in price, is very plentiful, and some of the growers are salting down their surplus stocks. Cheese, best quality, 10d. to Is. per lb. ; old cheese and second quality, unsaleable. Sides and rolled bacon, lOd. to Is, per Ib. Colonial hams are getting more plentiful ; new cure coming in, Is. to Is. 2d. per lb. English hams are also more plentiful, but do not sell well owing to the high price demanded, Is. 6d. per lb. Eg:» 3 are very scarce, never were more so in town, retailing at 3s. 6d. per dozen.
