TUAPEKA HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management of the above institution was hold in the Commercial Hotol on Tuesday evening laat, the 28th ult. Present : B. H. Carew, Esq., President, Messrs. Abel, Eoughan, Meyer, < Harrop, Jeffery, Bryant, Hill, Thompson, Arthur, Squires, Armstrong, Fracr, and Hayes (Secretary). The Resident Surgeon was also present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter received from the Secretary of the Dunstan ITospital relative to the mode of election of the Resident Surgeon. — Received. Mr. Fraer moved, and Mr. Harrop seconded, " That this Committee concur with the views of the Dunstan Hospital Committee as regards the mode of electing the Resident Surgeon, viz., by the votes of subscribe s who have paid not less than £1 sterling at least three months prior to the date of election : arrangements for polling places to be made by the Committee of Management." — Carried. Mr. Jeffery moved, and Mr. Hill seconded, " That a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to the M.P.C.'s for the district, also to the Secretary of the Dunslan Hopital." — Carried. The Treasurer's monthly report of subscriptions received was laid'on the table. Mr. Havrop moved and Mr. Abel seconded, " That the Secretary be instructed to write to the Government asking that a gift of trees and shrubs be granted to the institution, and that the Visiting Committee be requested to make a list of the most desirable sorts for plauting in the grounds." — Carried. Mr. Harrop moved, and Mr. Jeffery seconded, "That the lists for the current year be circulated at once, and that tho same be returnable before the Ist December." — Carried. • Mr. Harrop moved, and Mr. Armstrong seconded, " That the Secretary be instructed ta write to the Government asking that the sum of £200 be placed at the disposal of the Hospital Committee to execute necessary repairs to the building." An amendment, proposed by Mr. James IliU, to the effect that the sum asked for should be £1000, and a new building erected in place of the one now in use, was not seconded. The motion was therefore carried. The Resident Surgeon's application for an increase of salary, which was received at the previous meeting, was considered. After some conversation as to the financial position of the institution, Mr. Abel proposed that the amount be increased from £150 to £250. Mr. Armstrong seconded the resolution, which was carried. Mr. Hill proposed, and Mr. Bryant seconded, " That the Surgeon be not allowed to absent himself from the Hospital for more than twenty-four hours at one time without the permission of the Visiting Committee or President, or by giving subsequent satisfactory explanation." — Carried. The Surgeon's report was laid on the table. It showed that 19 patients were in the Hospital at the commencement of the month, 13 were admitted during the month, 16 had been discharged and died, leaving 16 ia the institution at present. Mr. Harrop moved and Mr. Abel seconded, " That the President with his permission and. Messr3. Squires, Hill, Fraer, Hayes, and Dr. Halley, be appointed a sub-committee to codify the rules and bring up a report by next meeting if possible." — (Carried). The Collector Mr. M. Hay suggested that the Visiting Committee should obtain some collecting boxes for the purpose of distributing amongst the railway contractors. Mr. Goodfellow had promised to place one in his. office. \ The matter was referred to the Visiing Committee with power to act.
