Mr. Strode brought under the notice of the Board the fact that for the last four or five years a very valuable coal seam near the Teviot tuwnship had been on fire, and he thought it was- quite time that steps were taken to put a stop to such a shameful destruction of property. The coal was of a very superior character, far above the ordinary lignite, and it appeared to him to be a monstros thing that such a state of things should be allowed to exist. — The Chief Commissioner said he knew of one other seam in the province^ that was on fire in the same way. Whai would Mr. Strode suggest ? - Mr. Strode -replied that the matter, should be at once ; brought - under the notice of the Government, who should be requested to turn a water-race on from the adjacent property, and'so put out the fire. I The matter was recorded in the minutebook, -after which the meeting adjourned. >
