WASTE LANDS BOARD,

The weekly meeting of the Board was held yesterday. 'Present : — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), and Messrs. Clark and Butterworth. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. LEANING HOCK. Mr. T. Wilson applied to purchase section \ 4, Leaning Rock district, on run 221, with the consent of the runholder. — Postponed. Mr. Stout applied on behalf of Messrs. Thomson and Irving, for a coal lease of section 117, block 11., Leaning Rock district. Mr. Gillies opposed the application, on behalf of Mr. Marie, and called witnesses to

show that Ids client had been supplying coal to the inhabitants of the district, and that there Avas no necessity for another pit to be opened. Tho Board decided to put the lease of the section up to auction, wilh a valmiLion i'or tho improvements Avith regard to access and drainage made by Marie. laatrbnce. Mr. Adams, District Surveyor of LaAvrenee, applied for two months' extension of time to complete tho survey of Mr. CresAvick's application, Tuapeka district. The extension was granted. Mr. Warden Carew reported on tho application of Thomas Brunton, for 20 acres of land at Lawrence for a quarry, and the Board resolvod to grant a license for one chain frontage at Is, renewable" for sevon years. GLKNKENICH. Messrs. Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Mr. J. Perry, requested the decision of the Board on his amended application for a neAv mill license, block VIII., Glenkenich, adjourned from last sitting. It was decided, after discussion, that the application should be received for bush land | only, 320 acres frontage, on the usual terms, survey to be made m six months. Deposit of 10s. per acre. The Board decided that this should apply to all other applications. Survey to include manuka scrub, except at request of tho applicants. SAW MILL LEASES. With reference to tho conditions of these leases, it was resolved that in future 10s. per acre deposit only should bo taken until the surveys were completed and approved. KAITANOATA. Mr. C. R. Chapman applied, on behalf of Mr. R. Chapman, to purchase section 10, block 1., Kaitangata, at present a bush reserve, the timber from which had been nearly cleared away. Tho application was referred to tho Ranger for his report. TIGER niLL. An application wag read from Messrs. Thompson and M'Bran for exchange of lease of section 15, block 11., Tiger Hill. This was agreed to. TAPANUI BUSH. Messrs. Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Messrs Guthrie and Lanarch, J. M'Farlane, and J, Patterson, Glenkenich, brought under the notice of the Board the refusal of the Chief Commissioner to carry out the decision of the Board at its last sitting, in the matter of granting a lease to the above applicants, under Clause 85 of the Act. It appeared that the Commissioner had decided to refuse to complete the granting of the leases until the conditions had been inserted with reference to the supply of fencing timber and firewood to settlers. These rates Avere fixed as follows : -10s. per cord for firewood, 50s, per hundred for rails, and 40s. per hundred for posts. GLENKENTPTT nioTmerr, Messrs. Connell and Moodie called the attention of the Board to the report of Mr. Adams, District SurA^eyor, on the subject of the reduced area of Mr, J. Rodger's application, Block XVIIL , Glenkenich district. No action Avas taken in the matter, as the report had not come properly before the Board. The Board then adjourned,
