TUAPEKA HOSPITAL.

* The usual monthly meeting was held in Commercial Hotel last evening. Present: E. H.- Oarew, Esq., President, and Messrs. Armstrong, Squires, Hill, Abel, Harrop, Walker, Jeffery, Freer, Bryant, Hayes, and the Besident Surgeon. The minutes of last monthly meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Harrop asked the Secretary what steps had beeu taken as regards getting the clergymen to devote the collection at the various places of worship for the benefit of the Hospital. Some discussion here arose as to whether it would be advisable to have the collections made on different days, or that the Victorian plan should be adopted, and one special day be appointed, to be called a Hospital Sunday. Ultimately it was resolved to leave the matter with the clergymen. The Besident Surgeon's report was laid on the table, and showed that 16 patients had been admitted to the Hospital during the month. The Visiting Committee's report was received and adopted. It was moved and seconded, "That the Visiting Committee call for and accept tenders for the painting of the Hospital." Carried. An amendment to bring the matter before the fullgommittea was loßt on the voices. The motion standing in Dr. Halley's name in regard to tenders for the supply of drugs to the institution lapsed, the doctor not being present to move the resolution. A resolution was passed that an account for £10 10s. he sent to a gentleman lately a paying patient in the Hospital for exiras supplied. Mr! Harrop stated thai he had called on th» Chinese and succeeded in collecting upwards of £10: A special vote of thanks was accorded Mr. ikjEarrop. for 2iis services in this matter. Jp A letter was received from Dr. Stewart asking an increase of salary. It was moved that the letter be received and considered at next meeting. A long discussion ensued, during which several of the # members were calledt o order ; but eventually the motion was carried. Mr. Harrop retired from the Visiting Committee, Mr. Pfaer taking his place. The usual rote to the chair closed the proceedings.
