DUNEDIN RACES.
(From our own Correspondent.) Dusedik, March 24. The attendance at the races to-day was large, although not coming tip to that of ye«terday by perhaps a couple of thousand. The weather was magnificent. The first event of day was the Handicap Hurdle Race, of 60 soys., with a sweepstake of 2 soys. each ; the second ' horse to receive amount accruing from the sweep. Two miles and a distance, over 10 flights of hurdles, 3tt. 6in. high. ; ' Patterson's Maid of the Mill, lOst 51b I Richardson's Mistletoe, 9st 101 b 2 Ward's Swaggerer, 9st S Eraser's Medora, list Q Ray's Bismark, lOst 51b g^ Fraser'B Banjo, Bst 101 b Qjr Bismark, who was one of the favorites, unfortunately fell at the first jump, and did not again start ; his jockey (Dan O'Brien) having received a severe cut on the leg. Maid of the Mill lead round the course, taking her jumps splendidly, closely followed by Mistletoe and Swaggerer j and when at the distance hurdle, the two latter and the other horses all came to grief in a heap, Maid of the Mill I hen came in an easy winner. Time : 3min. 57secs. Dunedin Jockey Clto Handicap, of 200 soys., with a sweepstake of 5 soys. each ; the second horse to receive the amount accruing from the sweepstakes ; the third " horse to receive 10 soys. from the stakes. One mile and three-quarters. Redwood's Lurline, 9st 121 b - i Ward's Tambourini, Bsfc 71b 2 Hazlett's Atlas, 7st 101 b 3 Redwood's Culmny, Bst 21b 0 Delamain's Templeton, 6st 10lb 0 Lurline was of course made a hot favorite fop this event, while very little attention -was paid to, Tambourini - who proved himself well worthy of favourites mettle. The horses raced pretty well together for the first mile, but it was then plainly seen that the contest would bo between the two that were placed. About half a mile from the winning post, Tambourini drew upon the mare and passed her, when at call from favourite's riler she again took first position and a most determined and exciting race then ensued. Notwithstanding the most strenuous exertions however on the part of the gelding and his jockey, Lnrline kept up her established reputation, kept the lead and won by a good length. Stewards' Ppese, of 75 sT>rs.; 1£ mile; weight for age. Tambourini and Gossip were scratched before this event, leaving Redwood's two horses, Lurline and Calumny. Lurline came to the post, and after cantering half a mile with herstable companion, Calumny, came in at her jeisuie. There was a very 1 bitter feeiingmanifested at this "sell," as it was called, and the winner came in. amongst much, groaning and hissing. ' Tim» ; 4min. 27eec,

Hutchineou's Mabel, Bst 61b 3 Smith* Congreve, 6st 31b 0 0. Water's Verbena, 6st 101 b 0 Brunette, Border Lad, Wee Lad, and Ray's MiM King Filly were scratched. A Hack Race of 20 soys. post entry, concluded the day's racing. Beyond the spills in the Hurdle Race there was 90 accident.' , March 25th, 9.17 a.m. Bather an alarming occurrence took place on the Southern Railway lino yesterday morning. Four trucks filled with earth broke * loose at Carersham, and starting down an incline they acquired such impetus that on arriving in town they were going at a speed of about 40 miles an hour. "They dashed into, a number of ether trucks filled with merchandise at the railway station, and about £500 worth of damage was the result. .Ixion's tip for to-days races in Town Plate' walk over for Redwoods.
