Sydney, March 11th The establishment of a second telegraph wire and service with ilng'and-is being discussed in Parliament ; if the Government.! of Queensland and New Zealand grant the terms to assist in carrying out the work, a second line via Singapore will soon be laid. The emigrant ship Southern Bell has arrived from London dismasted. The floods are subsiding on the Palmer River. The roads to the goldfields are drying up fast, and pack horses are very much wanted. The general news of the gold return is good. Several men died from starvation during the floods Seme subsisted on grass for weeks. The latest despatch from Townesville says the lvad to the Palmer is now accessible. The rivers are all down, but provisions are still scarce on the digings. Two men who have arrived from Cookstown, say they have prospected one hundred miles up the Palmer without success. Reefs are being found in all directions, and gold within forty miles of Cookstown. Provisions are plentiful and cheap at Cookstown. Moat is scarce, but twenty-two cows have reached the township, Melbourne, March 14th. The final cricket match between Victoria and the All England Eleven is not finished. When the Hero left Sydney, Victoria had made in their tirst innings 151 ; second inings,- 10 wickets down for 55, and Cosstick not out. ' The All England's first innings terminated for 166. Adelaide, March 14. Twenty thousand bushels of wheat have been sold at 6s.
