Dtwedin, February 13th, 7.31 p.m. The Mongol, one of the steamers for the new San Francisco lino, arrived at Port Chalmers this afternoon, after a splendid passage of 49£ <Jajs from -Plymouth. Owing to disease being on board, it was plaoed iuto quarantine. During the passage there wore. 67 cases of measles, 21 of scarlet fever, and 8 of bronchitis, and the deatha numbared 16. The case of Hunt i\. Sorley, in which the plaintiff seeks to recover £100 damages for alleged and unskilful treatment, whereby his leg has been permanently injured, was commenced in the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day. Dr. llocken was examined in evidence to-day, and the case was adjourned* Mr. Holloway, a co-worker with Mr. Joseph Arch (who recently visiteJ Canada on a tour of observation for immigration purposes), is a passenger by the Mongol on a similar mission, mainly on behalf of the English agricultural laborers. February 14th, 9.43 a.m. The Otago has just arrived at the Bluff with the Suez mail. The Pheobe arrived at Auckland yesterday. She left Sydney on the 7th,

Hume, who was dispatched by the Sydney Government in 1872 to search for traces of the Leichardt expedition, has discovered Clapan, Leichardt's second in command, living with the blacks iv the north. Leichardt died, and all the rest of the party were killed by blacks. Hume brings with, him a watch, quadrant, and other things.
