The Surat inquiry was yesterday adjourned till Saturday, at 10 o'clock LAWRENCE GRAMMAR SCHOOL, The annual statutory meeting of the above institution was held in the schoolroom on. Monday evening. The attendance was very Ismail. Mr. "Harrop wa3 called Co the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. At the call of tbe Chairman, the Secretary read the following report ; — This Committee have the honor to report that for the past twelve months the school has been most efficiently worked in all its branches, tba head master and his assistants, both male and female, having been assiduous in endeavoring to advance the impils under their charge Owing to ths early probability of uew school buildings being erected on a site for which negotiations are being carri&l out, no additions or improvements of any kind have been carrieil out during the year. The school glehe, containing about 7 acres, has been most subs tan* tially fenced at a cost of £40, whiob, amount has been guaranteed by the Government. The attendance during the past year has been considerably iv excess of any previous year, with a still increasing tendency. Tbe annual examination, which took place on the 18th and 19th December, gave much geuaral satisfaction. It will be seen by the annexed statement and balance-sheet for the year, that the school is in a fail financial position, shewing upwards of £50 on the credit side. Your Committee at its last meeting having arranged that the re-opening of the school should be celebrated by a, pic^nie to the pupils, trust that the new committee which will now be appointed may carry oat the ideas of the retiring committee in regard to the promised, pic-nic. Darton, seconded by Mr. Squires, the r-'port was received ; and on the motion of W- Jamison, seconded by Mrv Darton, it was adopted. Mr. DartOD moved a vote of thanks to the " retiring Committee. Mr. Mar r seconded* Carried. Mr. Jar* lß0 * 1 moved that the Committee for the ensuflg 12 months consist of 9 members, 5 to for* l a quorum. The meeting then proceeded to elect by ballot a new Committee, when the following gentemen were duly elected, viz., Messrs. Jefery, Jamison, Squires, Abel, Thompson, parrop, Hayes, M'Coy, and Menzies. This being all the business to be transacted at the public meeting, a Committee meeting, with Mr. Herrop in the chair, was then held All the members elected were present. Mr. 3?. H. M'Coy was unanimously elected President. Mr. Harrop then retired from th« chair in favor of Mr- M'Coy. Mr. Win. Hayes was unanimously elected Secretary *aud Treasurer. It was decided that the school should bo op»«ied on Monday, the 26th instant, •. Messrs. Squires, Thompson, and Jamison were appointed a Sub-Committee to makearrangements for a pic-nic to be held on Friday, the 23rd January* On* the motion of Mr. Jeffery, seconded by Mr. Jamison, it was decided to- hold thft monthly meetings on the last Thursday of eo,«Q month, inslead of the last Friday m heretofore. The meeting then adjourned.
